What’re your favorite books and why?

The book that I’ve loved the longest is Judy Blume’s Summer Sisters. It’s the story of how these two girls grow up together, and kind of drift apart, but there’s always this strong connection between them. I think I’ve always kind of searched for a friend with that level of closeness. Sometimes I think I’ve found it. Most of the time, I’m wrong.

White Oleander by Janet Fitch is another favorite. I felt very much like Astrid for a while - awkward and sort of disaffected. It resonated with me when I read it, and I’ve always kept it near and dear. It’s the only book that I also own an audio tape of.

House of Leaves, Mark Z. Danielewski…is just a crazy crazy mindfuck, and I adore it for that. And She’s Come Undone, Wally Lamb. And The City and the Pillar, Gore Vidal, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde…I’ll just stop at those.
